After the recent flooding, Poplar recently reopened all 18 holes and grounds are great. Road closures make detours necessary but it is worth the trip.
The course Superintendant and his crew worked non-stop to bring the course back to pristine condition and deserve accolades.
From an early start to an early closure! The weather sure is finicky! Poplar Golf Course (WI) experienced the wrath of weather with the recent rains. The undulating Middle River normally winds around holes 5 thru eight, but now, it completely envelopes the holes. Although the back nine remins open, the front nine excludes holes five thru eight. Makes my scoring even better!
Poplar Golf staff continues with flooding clean-up but is at the mercy of the Middle River. When the river returns to it’s banks, staff will have those holes re-opened in record time. In the mean time, enjoy the back nine!

When your car is wandering all over the road, pushing to the right or pulling to the left, you bring it in for an alignment, Right? Well the same is true for golf. One of the initial problems identified by qualified golf instructors when assessing a student is alignment. Correcting alignment also corrects many issues with ball flight due to the fact that the arms and mind/eye are not fighting each other. Swing plane straights out and ball flight straightens.
If your having some of these problems, have your qualified golf pro check you alignment and stay in the fairway!
The first thunderstorm of the year seems to always green things up. The staff at GOLF! closed the office today after putting the phones on hold and hit the fairways. Well, some of the fairways. OK, really just put the ball in the trees. But, what a difference a couple of days makes… everything emerald green!
On the opening day of the 2012 Golf Season at beautiful Poplar Golf Course, Mike Daniels of Spooner, Wisconsin scored his lifetime first Hole in One. Daniels’ 7 iron shot on the 150 yard sixth hole bounced once on the green and rolled into the cup. Witnesses to the ace were Seth and Traci Fonger of Superior who watched the shot from the seventh tee box. Temperatures at Poplar soared to near 80 degrees for a perfect mid-march opener.
The driving range at Enger will be open at noon on March 19th.
