Are you considering purchasing new equipment nex year? GOLF! recommends that you seriously consider making that purchase now. Why you may ask? The reasons are simple.
Golf equipment has now evolved to the closest point of confirmation with USGA rules. Most major manufacturers are nudging the limit of what the RULES allow. For instance, the allowable C.O.R. of a driver is .81 (see earlier article about C.O.R.) Most major manufacturers have been to that standard for a couple of years.
Secondly, in our region, golf is slowly coming to a close which means the major manufacturers are reducung prices on their current offerings. An authorized dealer representing a golf manufacturer must comply with the manufacturers minimum pricing (or MAP) or risk losing their dealership. Now is the time that manufacturers are allowing deeper cuts to their prices, to clear inventory. Waiting much longer will seriously comprimise your ability to find equipment that is not “out of stock”.
Considering those factors it just makes sense to purchase now. If your clubs are over 5 years old, you are outside the bubble of taking advantage of technological advances that have happened in the past few years. Since the major manufacturers are up to speed and attacking the limits of the maximum allowable technology for equipment under the current USGA rules, little change can be expected except for marketing gimicks.
In essence, while it might seem counterintuitive to make a major golf purchase now, it is indeed one of the most economical times to buy!
